Paradigm Shifts to Make When Aging with Fitness

When it comes to getting fit, you already know that there are changes you will need to make. You will have to engage in being committed to your workouts in order to get the most out of your training and see positive benefits. But there are other paradigm shifts you will need to make as well. Just picking up the weights at the gym is not going to be enough to get you from where you are to where you want to be.

It’s important to make the paradigm shifts so that you can come to really embrace what you are doing and why you are doing it. Being negative about things is easy, and often comes as second nature for some people. So these shifts may take some practice for some people, but by sticking with the idea of making a shift in your thought patterns, you will find that you can achieve more and enjoy what you are doing more, too.

Here are the top three paradigm shifts that you must make when aging with fitness:

  1. Re-think what old really is. Age often gets a bad rap in our society, but really it’s not a bad thing. You don’t have to have the view that you are old or that because of your age you are not capable of doing things. Age is a number; it’s not the whole picture of how you feel, what your goals are, and what you can achieve. Be grateful for having reached the age you are and focus on becoming the best version of you at every age.

 

  1. Break the stereotypes. There are a lot of stereotypes out there that come with aging and fitness. Forget those stereotypes and challenge yourself. Forget what others feel is appropriate for your age and go by what you and your trainer feel is appropriate. The stereotypes will always hold people back, rather than lead them toward success and happiness. Don’t be afraid to do the things that others may say you are “too old” for. Stay active and enjoy life more.

 

  1. Accepting that third age is your best age. Being an older adult, you are in the “third age” period. It’s the period of your life when you can enjoy being with grandchildren, travel, and take on challenges you couldn’t when you were younger and busy with raising kids. Embrace this time as being the best time. By getting fit, you are making it easier to do and enjoy all of the things during this period of your life.
